Shocking price hike on petrol in Malaysia

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi on Wednesday
announced the new price for petrol is RM2.70 a litre, effective
midnight tonight.

He announced that the price of petrol would be increased by 78sen and diesel by RM1.

The whopping 40% increase in petrol price is part of the new fuel subsidy plan the Prime Minister announced at 5pm Wednesday.

The price of diesel goes up to RM2.58 from RM1.58.

This is a very sad day for all Malaysians (except those who are in oil & gas industry + filthy rich people). Now is the perfect time to demand the government to declare the real figures on Petronas‘ profit and how it was/will be spent. And brothers & sisters, its time to stop voting for BN (who now stands for Boleh Naik or Bagi Naik), if you have already been swept by the political tsunami during the last election in March.

May God bless us all, especially those who have to travels a lot.

  1. i really plan to get a car (within this year), trying very hard to revised my financial again and again..but but but now… all my plan is useless, and i wont get a car anymore!! next time when we go lunch,we calculate petrol price together, okay?

  2. yup…shocking is right. didn’t realize govt was raising it this much. the only piece of “news/rumours” i got was 50cents increase. *speechless*

  3. sigh … this news is one of the worst piece of bomb ever dropped since …well, since the last price hike!
    40% increase. *faint* ………..

  4. i was one of them, waited 2 hours just to fuel my car. can never get back those 2 hours of my life. unfortunately my friend, they’re not that stupid. our gov know exactly what they’re doing. if you noticed, in the last few weeks, we had crisis with beras and gov suggested that they should increase subsidy for foods rather than subsidy for petrol + diesel because people can’t survive without food, right? that’s their argument. in fact, they know exactly that each time the gas price increases, our living cost will increase as well except now all they can say is that there is nothing that they can do about it because market price for gas is skyrocketing and they already give subsidy for foods.Gymz,CekikDarah.com – Financial Blog Tips

  5. friend friend, what makes u think that not voting for BN will bring dwn petrol prices..petrol prices is not the govt doing, it is the whole world’s doing..i think have to be fair when you make that statement la..i mean, few mths down the line, we only saw bickering among the Opposition b4 they settle dwn..so not exactly what we voted for also rite?

  6. i was one of those people who was lining up for around 2 hours at the petrol station last night.  And when its my turn to fill up my tank its only few minutes close to midnight. I still cant get over the scenery. Everybody were restless, depressed, and angry. Are we going down towards recession period again?
I heard dat Brazil is using sugar cane to substitutes petroleum. Why dont we? What are R&D for? why dont we find other alternatives instead of playing this blame game.

  7. susuniamniam – Awww…then get a Savvy la, its fuel consumption is pretty good. And since bus operators are going to increase their ticket fare anyway. flich – Shocked is an understatement. Do pray for our country will ya?J2Kfm – Tell me about it..sigh…Somemore the govt says they will be reviewing the price monthly from now on. *gulp*Gymz – I was a lil bit fortunate, went to the gas station at 6pm and waited for 15 minutes only for my turn. You got it spot on about the govt being not stupid. They are just downright corrupted and selfish. I wanna see what tricks they still have on their sleeves once all the subsidies have been taken away.zjchen – Can’t you see it? It is not about bringing down the petrol price, its about how the govt spent away all the revenue from Petronas on meaningless projects, kickbacks and for their cronies. I think it is perfectly fair to say that the BN govt has screwed this country up. And what do you mean by “not exactly what we voted for also rite?”…coz if I’m not mistaken, you didn’t vote during the last GE because you said it was meaningless and our votes won’t change anything right? wanyta – Oh another unfortunate fella. Well, look at the positive side…you got your petrol and you wasn’t involved in any accidents. I saw few on my way home that night, not to mention thousands of angry and frustrated people started honking around. Can’t deny that Brazil did managed to solved their dependencies on fuel by using bio-fuel such as sugar cane. But did you also know that there are many negative effects due to the exploding numbers of sugar cane farms? Permanent loss of the Amazon rainforest, skyrocketing food prices because farmers prefer to plant sugar canes rather than food crops, and etc.
