Malaysia has just confirmed its first case of H1N1 (Swine Flu) this morning (Friday, 15th May 2009). The patient, a 21-year-old student, was warded yesterday at Sungai Buloh Hospital (the designated hospital for infectious disease cases) after suffering from flu, fever, sore throat and body aches, since returning from Newark, United States on Wednesday.
The authority is now urging all other passengers of that flight to contact the Health Ministry. Surprisingly, none of the patient’s family members are being placed under quarantine at the moment.
While this is definitely a cause for concern, it wouldn’t be wise to press the panic button yet. So please do not spread any unnecessary rumors or go on a buying spree for gloves, face masks and anti-viral drugs.
